Stains / Test Description

At least five CD1 genes (a, b, c, d, e) have been identified. Cortical thymocytes, Langerhans cells, and dendritic cells express CD1a. It is absent on mature peripheral blood T-cells, but cytoplasmic expression is detected on activated T-lymphocytes. CD1a is found on a subset of T-lymphoblastic lymphoma-leukemia and cases of Langerhans cell histiocytosis.
