Stains / Test Description
Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) plays a role in tumorigenesis through stimulating epithelial cell proliferation, inhibiting apoptosis, stimulating angiogenesis, enhancing cell invasiveness, mediating immune suppression, and by increasing the production of mutagens. COX-2 is expressed in breast cancer, transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder, high-grade endometrioid carcinoma, and ovarian cancer. Overexpression of COX-2 is associated with poor prognosis in cervical cancers after radiation and concurrent chemotherapy.
